The spatial organization of the L117 loft is a direct outcome of an existing structure, which consists of architectural obstacles that are protruding into the space. Instead of trying to camouflage these “accidents” under a pretense of purity, the design, on the contrary, makes use of them, by inflating them into sculptural elements, and by using them as space dividers. Wrapped with translucent panels that are assembled to look like giant crystals and gems, these protruding walls and columns become storage and service spaces, serving as closets, cabinets, shafts, etc… A triangulated false ceiling solves the odd geometry resulting from these new spatial elements in section, and unifies the space of the loft.
